Ryannair anounces a 748 million euro takeover of Aer Lingus. It already
owns 30% of Aer Lingus. (this has just been announced, so details are
sparce).

Will Ryannair implement its own idea of "low service" on long hauls
operated by Aer Lingues ?

They made a previous bid in October 06, which shunned by Aer Lingus and
ultimately banned by competition regulators. I wonder what they think
has changed now?

Funny that this happens, when RYR already owns nearly 1/3rd of
EIN..

Either way, EIN already turned them down:

If this had turned out, the new airline would have had
reasonably good access to the US and Carribbean via JetBlue. IIRC, EIN
and JBU did form a quasi-codeshare where tickets to eachother's
destinations could be bought on eachother's sites.

I have to wonder whether Ryannair ever intended to actually buy Aer
Lingus. It really wouldn't be such a great fit within their operating
philosophy.

Perhaps, in setting up this deal, knwoing it would fail, they benefitted
in some other way ? (government concessions etc etc).

It doesn't seem very likely.

Raising their profile and being a thorn in the side.
