40 injured. Not sure which plane (read: registration, SN
number) was used for the flight, but according to FlightAware, every
run on this route has been a B738. Initial reports had it sounding like
the fuselage just broke apart after it landed, leading to a number of
questions I was going to have. It did land in heavy rain, and crossed
with what the Miami Herald is reporting, may have just simply skidded
across the runway. lost the main landing gear and an engine, and that
is that. Luckily, no fatalities.

MKJP is closed for the night, and probably will be most of the
morning while the investigation goes on.

I have seen clear pictures of the 738 broken into three pieces in the
process
of over-running the runway end, careering down a bank and crossing a
road,
just barely avoiding coming to grief in the water. Incidentally, this
seem to
have occurred close by where I witnessed a Convair 240 of Pan Am that
was
written off after ditching in the early fifties. No fatalities that
time, either.
