Virgin rumoured to be dating Delta

Read something on the BBC a few days ago about rumours of Virgin
Atlantic supposedly considering a merger with Delta in order to compare
against the BA/Iberia/AA matchup.

This would be somewhat disapointing since Virgin has a certain brand
image which is so incompatible with a "bland" Delta image in terms of
flight experience.

And since Delta is the bigger one, such a merger would likely dillute
Virgin's service down to Delta levels.

But it would give Delta quite a presence at LHR. But would Delta build
international operations out of new york ? If so, from JFK or EWR ?

Delta already has a substantial international hub at JFK. They're the
second largest airline (after JetBlue) in passengers.

I think it would more likely be run as a separate "brand," so they could
keep the UK route authorities to third countries, like the recent KL-AF and
IB-BA mergers. From a service point of view, though, you're probably right;
Delta would "dumb down" VS to their level..
